Man sentenced to life in prison for fatal robbery attempt

Alvin Jordan convicted of killing Will Wright during street robbery

DETROIT – Handcuffed and without emotion, 18-year-old Alvin Jordan was sentenced to life in prison Friday for murdering a man he was trying to rob.

Police said Jordan jumped 68-year-old Will Wright on Dec. 29, 2014, as he walked on Ninth Street in Ecorse. The two struggled and Wright was shot twice, police said.

A jury convicted Jordan of first-degree murder, armed robbery and gun charges last month.

"You all can trap my mind but you can't trap my mind. I'm going to continue to stand tall through it all, and I pray that my family and my friends do the same," Jordan told the court before his sentencing. He also said he will appeal and that the person who killed Wright is still out there.

Wright's family said the punishment is exactly what they wanted.

"He was a family man, he's a loving man, he worked hard and he retired. He was a big brother, he was my oldest brother. He was the best brother in the world," said Wright's brother, Kenneth.
