DETROIT – A 24-year-old man will spend decades in prison for raping an 11-year-old Highland Park girl who was on her way to school.
Ramirez Demarco Dewberry was sentenced Wednesday to 25-40 years in prison. He pleaded guilty last month to criminal sexual conduct, felonious assault, kidnapping and felony firearm charges.

Dewberry grabbed the girl at gunpoint on Dec. 10 as she ran to catch a bus on Church Street. He forced her into a vacant house and sexually assaulted her.
The attack prompted family members, neighbors and community activists to band together as part of a community effort to find Dewberry.
