Man shot in Home Depot parking lot in Detroit

Police are looking for a silver pickup truck

DETROIT – A 42-year-old man was shot and killed Monday morning in the parking lot of a Home Depot in northwest Detroit, police said.

Police said the victim, a contractor whose name is not yet being released, and the gunman appeared to have been in a dispute prior to the shooting in the store's parking lot.

"The suspect appeared to be waiting for the victim to exit," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. "The suspect followed and fatally assaulted (the victim), firing several shots."

The victim tried to drive away but crashed his pickup truck into a street sign on the corner.

Police seek silver GMC or Chevrolet pickup

Craig didn't give a detailed description of the gunman, but said he was seen in a late model or new silver GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck.

"It has a black tarp over the pickup bed," Craig said. "We have other information that that vehicle was also seen in the general vicinity as if, possibly, stalking the victim. That's why we believe there's some pre-existing contact, dispute."

The truck had a black tarp over the bed.
