Man shot, killed during apparent home invasion on Detroit's east side

76-year-old Robert Peterson killed on Albion Street

DETROIT – A 76-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday during an apparent invasion at his home on Detroit's east side, Local 4 has learned.

The shooting happened on Albion Street near Sturgis Street. The victim has been identified as Robert Peterson.

No arrests have been made.

Peterson's caretaker told Local 4 he has lived in the home since 1972 and in that time he has been robbed more than 10 times.

The caretaker said the shooting happened overnight. Peterson was shot in his face. He was found dead Tuesday morning by a neighbor who went to check on him.

Peterson's caretaker said he had begged him to leave the house. However, Peterson didn't want to leave the neighborhood he had come to know and love.

"I encouraged him to move from over here," said Timothy, Peterson's caretaker. "He was broken in ... I don't know how many times. They stole his car a few times. My last conversation with him was yesterday at 12. So this had to happen overnight."

Local 4 is on the scene and will update the story as more information becomes available.
