Man shot to death after fight in Ypsilanti gas station

YPSILANTI, Mich. – A 25-year-old man was killed Sunday when he was shot by a man who he was fighting with at a gas station in the 500 block of S. Huron Street, police say.

Witnesses told police that two men were fighting at the gas station and that one of them had a gun. When officers arrived, a woman told them there was a person lying on the hill in front of GW Kent. Police found the man with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Investigators say the victim and suspect had a confrontation at an establishment in Ypsilanti Township and another at a business in Ypsilanti. On Sunday, the two men fought inside the gas station on Huron Street and continued outside, where the suspect shot the victim once, hitting him in the chest.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"At this preliminary stage of the investigation, we have no indication that the victim or suspect has any gang affiliations," authorities said in a statement.
