A 43-year-old Garden City man was stabbed to death Thursday afternoon during a confrontation near the Roma Banquets hall parking lot on Cherry Hill Road just east of Venoy Road.
Garden City police say the victim, Curtis Scott, was walking with another man when they got into an argument with two other men who were in a burgundy Ford minivan. The argument was about where the men were walking in the driveway to the hall. The groups exchanged words and separated.
However, according to police, the passenger in the minivan then got out and stabbed Scott.
"Curtis had tried to run after him to ... finish the fight or whatever, but he collapsed," said Scott's mother, Donna Scott.
Scott was on disability because of health issues. He was 4 feet 11 inches tall.
"My brother was screaming my name. Because my dining room window was open, I should have heard my brother screaming my name," said Scott's sister, Tiffany Scott-Meade.
Garden City police are looking for that burgundy minivan. Police have surveillance video of the person of interest, who is described as a black man, conducting a transaction before the stabbing. The minivan also is on the video.
According to Scott's family, he and his friend were intoxicated. During the argument Scott made an ethnic slur. The other man insulted him about his height.
Scott was known to his family as "Bud." He was a father of four.
