PONTIAC, Mich. - A 32-year-old Pontiac man was killed Friday when he drove his 2005 Pontiac Grand Am into Terry Lake.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says according to family members, Pedro Lopez had been home drinking all day. He found the keys to the car, which a friend loaned his brother, and went for a drive.
The vehicle went over the curb at the end of North Merrimac Road where it meets South Merrimac Road, through a chain-linked fence, some trees and into the lake, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and its Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The Sheriff's dive team found the car in about 15 feet of water and about 60 feet from the shore. Lopez was dead inside the vehicle.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy and determined this was an accidental drowning.
It is still under investigation.
