MONROE, Mich. -

A man has been arrested after breaking into the Jefferson High School Administration Building early Saturday morning.

At about midnight, police drove to Kenny's Market on North Dixie Highway to investigate a man with an axe standing in front of the building. When they arrived the man was gone, but the officers heard an alarm going off at Jefferson High School less than a mile down the road.

Police found a broken window to the building and found the suspect on Dixie near Woodland Beach. Boot prints from the broken window led them to the man.

An axe was found in the area.

The suspect, who is currently on parole for breaking and entering, was arrested and taken to Monroe County Jail. He is believed to have committed other crimes during the night.

Anyone with further information is asked to call the Monroe County Sheriff's Office at 734-240-7700 or the Sheriff's Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
