2 charged in deadly Port Huron hit-and-run

79-year-old woman left for dead

PORT HURON, Mich – Matthew Jarvis, 33, and Ann Marie Chubb, 40, have been identified as suspects involved in the hit-and-run which led to the death of a woman in Port Huron, according to police.

Police responded to a call about 6:30 a.m. Sept. 2 after a woman was seen lying unconscious and bleeding in the 1000 block of Oak Street.

The woman, who police identified as Eleanor Smith, 79, was taken to the Lake Huron Medical Center and later transported to McLaren Macomb where she died from injuries several hours later.

According to police, Jarvis and Smith were charged after receiving information of the potential suspects Monday.

Jarvis has been charged with failure to stop at the scene of the accident resulting in serous impairment or death, which is a five-year felony. Chubb is charged with lying to a peace officer on a criminal investigation, which is a four-year felony.

A probable cause conference is set for Jarvis and Chubb on Oct. 25.  Bond was set at $50,000 for both of them.Â
