Volunteers join Habitat for Humanity to revitalize homes

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – More than a dozen volunteers from Bank of America joined Habitat for Humanity Detroit to revitalize homes in Lincoln Park.

Floyd Maclin was one of the volunteers. He joined the Habitat for Humanity program a little over a year ago because he's trying to become a homeowner for the first time.

"They [Habitat for Humanity] helped with my credit score. I'm learning how to pay bills so I (won't) be depending on momma anymore. So I'm good. I'm good," Maclin said.

He retired from General Motors and now works in various places to get by, but has dreams of becoming a homeowner soon and knows exactly what he wants his house to look like.

"Side drive, one-car garage and all of the toys to go with it," he said.

Maclin said he has about eight more months until he can be considered for a home and is happy to help volunteer painting and fixing homes that will go to another family in need.

"They help me. I help you and we get it together, you understand, so that sounds like a winner. I sound like a winner today," Maclin said.

Throughout the week, volunteers from Bank of America have teamed up with Habitat for Humanity affiliates to address affordable housing challenges and help fix neighborhoods in 70 communities across the United States and seven nations around the world.
