Mandatory boil-water notice issued in Novi

Notice prompted by issue at Detroit Water and Sewerage Department

NOVI, Mich. – The city of Novi has issued a mandatory boil-water notice to all residents near 8 Mile and Haggerty roads.

The notice affects Orchard Hill Place, Haggerty from Orchard Hill Place to 8 Mile Road, the Turnberry subdivision and surrounding businesses.

Residents shouldn't use water from their taps for drinking or cooking unless it is boiled for five minutes. If the water is used for drinking, it should be cooled in a sealed container after boiling.

Total coliform bacteria analysis testing has begun. The notice will be in effect until results are in compliance with EPA drinking water standards.

Officials believe that the notice will be lifted within 48 hours. A boil-water termination notice will be issued when the water is safe to use.

Novi has begun flushing the water systems in all affected areas.
