Macomb County is looking for 100 volunteers to deliver emergency food boxes to home bound seniors February 15.
The boxes contain shelf-stable meals for seniors when severe weather prevents normal delivery.
The recent blast of winter weather did cause some food deliveries to be canceled throughout Metro Detroit, leaving the seniors who depend on meal deliveries to use the emergency food boxes which were delivered in December.
"These new boxes will ensure our home bound seniors have enough shelf-stable meals in the event we have more weather-related closures this winter," said Katherine Bedford, director of the Macomb County Community Services Agency's Office of Senior Services.
Boxes will be picked up between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Macomb County warehouse, located on Vic Wertz Drive (near Hall Road and Groesbeck Highway). Volunteers must use their personal vehicles for delivery.
Each route will take about two hours to complete.
