Phyllis C. Barone, also known as "The Queen on the Green," has been involved in Michigan golf for more than 20 years.
Her initial draw to the game came when she attended Miami of Ohio University. In her senior year, she was looking for those three "easy" credits that she needed to graduate. So, she dusted off her dad's old set of golf clubs and registered for a golf class.
After graduating from Miami, Phyllis left for Europe and put golf on hold. But when she got back to the U.S. a few years later, she was determined to get serious about the game. She attended John Jacobs' Golf School in Colorado.
She then packed up and moved to Detroit, where she took a job with U.S.A. Networks - a cable network that carried the first and second rounds of various golf tournaments, including the Ryder Cup.
The perks of her job allowed her to play golf at many premium courses, such as TPC Sawgrass, Firestone and Pinehurst.
Embracing her love for the game of golf, she then became the publisher of a golf magazine.
She said she felt like royalty when she walked the fairways with "The King," Arnold Palmer, at the Country Club of Detroit during "The Turning Point," and event held in his honor for the 50th anniversary of his winning the United States Amateur.
She's also played with Gary Player at the Grand Traverse Resort.
She's been taught by some of the best in golf - Cindy Miller, Bob Krause and Jason Guss. Legendary golf royalty, Judy Rankin, offered her a private lesson at the TCP Dearborn during Oakwood Foundation's Women's Health Care Classic.
Phyllis is known for having the latest golf equipment, fashion and is enthusiastic about educating other golfers.
