Mega changes to the Mega Millions lottery
New rules make jackpots bigger and increases odds
Are you waking up a winner? The Mega Millions game is changing and getting bigger!
The October 22nd drawing was the first time players got to see changes that include a larger minimum starting jackpot, faster growing jackpots, a million-dollar second prize and better overall odds of winning any prize.
The number of white balls is increasing from 56 to 75 and the number of gold balls will decrease from 46 to 15.
This will make the odds of hitting the jackpot steeper, but improve the overall odds of winning any prize.
Many of the prize levels will change. If you match five white balls, you will win $1 million. That’s up from $250,000. The prize for matching just the Mega Ball will be $1.
The minimum starting jackpot will increase from $12 million to $15 million. The jackpots will grow by at least $5 million after each drawing in which the jackpot is not won.
You can still buy the Megaplier option for an extra $1 to increase non-jackpot prizes.
The Megaplier will be expanded to include a five factor. That means a Mega Millions ticket can now win up to $5 million without matching all six numbers.
Your odds of hitting the jackpot is one in 259 million.
Lottery officials said they made these changes to create larger and faster-growing jackpots and a new $5 million second prize.
The numbers for Tuesday, October 22 drawing are 02-03-19-52-71 and the Mega Ball is 14.
A Mega Millions ticket costs $1 to play.
