Men posing as cops shoot 12-year-old, 1 other in Detroit

Shooting erupts on Marlowe Street just south of Lyndon Street in Detroit

DETROIT – A group of men posing as police officers shot and killed a 35-year-old woman, Shontae Davis, and wounded her 12-year-old sister, Ruthie Davis, Thursday morning at a home on Detroit's west side.

The shooting happened in the 14000 block of Marlowe Street, just south of Lyndon Street.

There were four other people -- ranging in ages from 6 to 22 -- inside the house at the time of the shooting.

Sources said the men cut power to the house before they started banging on the door yelling "police."

Ruthie is in serious condition at Children's Hospital.

"All I heard was shootin'. It was about six or seven shots and I think I heard someone call 911," one neighbor, who asked to stay anonymous, told Local 4.

Family says Davis lived with her 3 kids, younger sister

Family members say Shontae Davis lived at the house on Marlowe Street with her three children and younger sister. She was the legal guardian of Ruthie.

"She would wake up early in the morning to wake up my brothers and sister to go to school and this happen," said Aurnell Twiddy, Davis' son. "I've got to explain this to my little brothers and sisters."

Davis' own siblings are left stunned and hurting.

"My sister did not deserve none of this," said Monet Twiddy, Davis' sister.

Their other sister, Monet Twiddy, wants the shooters to turn themselves in.

"Do her kids a favor and turn yourself in," she said.

The family is trying to understand why this happened to the one person in their family who kept everyone laughing.

"Shontae had a very good sense of humor," said Daijah Twiddy. "She was always a fun person to be around. She was always happy. We all just hurt because they took her away from us."
