Metro Detroit families visit loved ones facing deportation at Ohio detention facility

More than 100 immigrants detained during ICE raids

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. – Dozens of Metro Detroit families are making the three and a half-hour trip Thursday to Youngstown, Ohio, to visit their loved ones who were taken into custody during last weekend's immigration sweeps.

Just hours after the arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, the immigrants were taken to a detention facility in Youngstown.

Among the families that made the trip was the Warren family of 47-year-old father Moayad Barash. On Sunday, Barash was pulled over and detained by ICE agents while driving with his 7-year-old daughter.

Barash was among more than 100 people detained during the ICE raids across Metro Detroit. He had a green card when he came to the United States as a child, but at 17 years old he was convicted for drug possession and a weapons violation. Since then, he hasn't been in trouble with the law.

The father of five is Chaldean. His family fears he will be tortured and killed by ISIS members if he's deported to Iraq.
