Hitting the road this holiday weekend?
You’re not alone. AAA Travel says in Michigan, over 1.12 million people are expected to travel during the Labor Day holiday, a nearly one-percent increase compared to last year. About one-million people plan to travel by auto, so you probably want the best gas price right?
Let’s go on a gas price tour!
In Clawson, the Citgo Station at 14 Mile and Rochester was $3.59. According to AAA that price is average.
“I came to this station first but my app said the price up the road was $3.49 but when I got there it was $3.79, a 30 cent difference so I came back to the Citgo,” said Steven Bennett, who’s driving to Cincinnati.
Next stop, Southfield. The price at the Shell on Southfield Rd. at 8 Mile was $3.89. OUCH!
“It’s crazy, you can see the different from city to city,” said Pete Miller of Ann Arbor. “I mean this is like a 30 cent difference, you have to think how can they do this?”
The lowest price we found was in Detroit the Marathon at Livernois I-96 the cash price was $3.29 and regular credit was $3.39.
While prices are fluctuating, AAA says overall the average is lower this year and to shop around before hitting the road.

Keeping them honest
Price gouging is something Attorney General Bill Schuette will be watching for this holiday weekend, warning retailers not to take advantage of customers.
“Michigan consumers should not being taken advantage of during their last vacation of the summer,” said Schuette. “We will not tolerate price gouging or price fixing. We are watching and will not hesitate to take action if retailers break the law.”
If you think a gas station is over charging or have evidence of that, you’re encouraged to contact the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division at 1-877-765-8388 or file an online complaint on the Attorney General's website.
