Republican canvasser keeps plan to add casinos off Michigan's Nov. ballot

LANSING, Mich. – A proposal to add a fourth casino in Detroit and seven others across Michigan has failed to get past the State Board of Canvassers.

Two Democratic canvassers voted Monday to place the proposal by Citizens for More Michigan Jobs on the Nov. 6 ballot. The one Republican canvasser attending the meeting in Lansing voted no.

Michigan's Supreme Court on Friday overturned an appeals court decision to keep the casino plan off the ballot.

Canvassers also are to consider a proposal requiring a statewide vote before a new international bridge can be built.

The plan is backed by Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun.
