DETROIT -

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will start enhancing Belle Isle by removing old trees and chipping them for use on trails throughout the park.

Trees that have been harvested on Belle Isle will be recycled by Mid-Michigan Recycling using wood grinding equipment.

The wood chips will be used to help enhance trails on Belle Isle and burned at the Genesee Power Station which is a wood waste fueled power plant near Flint.

Mid-Michigan Recycling and the Genesee Power Station are operated by CMS Enterprises which is the non-utility business of CMS Energy the parent company of Consumers Energy.
