ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan girl who was attacked by a raccoon as an infant will undergo her last surgery of the year Friday at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
When Charlotte Ponce was just three months old, her face was mauled by a pet raccoon after her parents left her unattended in 2002.
Now at the age of 10, Charlotte will have her fifth facial surgery this year to further rebuild her face.
About Charlotte:
Charlotte and her brother were adopted by their great-aunt and great-uncle in 2005 after the state terminated their biological parents' rights.
She lost her nose, an ear and part of her lip and spent many months in the hospital fighting to survive after the attack.
Over the last five months, Charlotte has endured surgeries to reconstruct the damage caused by the raccoon.

Friday's surgery will complete her nasal reconstruction and will give her full breathing abilities to her nose again, said Beaumont.

The hospital says Charlotte will be back in six months to begin work to reconstruct her ear.
