Michigan Stadium will host Real Madrid-Manchester United game

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan is bringing top soccer teams Real Madrid and Manchester United to its 109,901-seat stadium on Aug. 2 as part of the Guinness International Champions Cup.

The announcement was made Friday. The tournament is being held at various venues across the U.S. starting July 2.

"We are excited about the opportunity to host two of soccer's premier clubs at Michigan Stadium," said Dave Brandon, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. "This is a rare chance for the Ann Arbor community and thousands of soccer fans in and around the southeast Michigan area to watch elite level professional soccer. This event will have a positive economic impact on the city of Ann Arbor and the state of Michigan and will continue to extend the Michigan brand internationally."

Michigan Stadium has been site for other major non-football events. The NHL's Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs played there Jan. 1.

About the tournament:

The Guinness International Champions Cup is a unique tournament featuring eight of the world's best and most recognizable soccer clubs: Real Madrid CF, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool FC, AS Roma, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Olympiacos. Twelve round robin contests will be hosted across North America with matches in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Charlotte, Denver, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Dallas and Ann Arbor from July 24-Aug. 2. The tournament will crown an overall champion Monday, Aug. 4, at Miami's Sun Life Stadium.

Exclusive presale tickets for the Manchester United v. Real Madrid Match Presented by Chevrolet will be available Monday, April 7, at 8:30 a.m. -- while the general public will have access to tickets beginning Thursday, April 10, at 8:30 a.m. through the Michigan Athletic Ticket Office and online at MGoBlue.com/tickets.

Tickets for this game will start as low as $45. Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to purchase an Ultimate Fan Pack, which includes one supporters section ticket, team gear and priority access to select team training.
