American Coney Island opens in Canton Township

Famous Detroit eatery serves up coneys in suburb

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Detroit's legendary American Coney Island is branching out yet again.

This time, they'll be serving up coney dogs and other Greek favorites in Canton Township.

The new location on Michigan Avenue near South Sheldon Road will feature a 50-seat restaurant where diners can opt to eat in, carry out or drive thru, a first for American Coney Island.

The restaurant will celebrate its grand opening Saturday, Jan. 12. by offering free coney hot dogs to the first 50 customers (one per person) beginning at 9 a.m.

In the past several years, the 95-year-old iconic family-owned American Coney Island has expanded to the Detroit Zoo, Ford Field and most recently opened its first out-of-state location at The D Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
