BBQ contest highlights Auburn Hills Summerfest

Event runs June 21 - 22 in downtown Auburn Hills

Auburn Hills, MI— BBQ fans, buffs, and aficionados, get ready to smell the smoke!

 The City of Auburn Hills is sponsoring its 5th annual Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) sanctioned State Championship BBQ Cook-Off Competition this weekend (June 21-22) in conjunction with Auburn Hills' Summerfest celebration in downtown Auburn Hills.

 The event, which features some of this region's top pit masters, has become one of the premier draws of the festival.

 Competition will heat up as teams compete for $8,000 in cash, trophies, and the coveted title of "Grand Champion".  The dedicated pit masters, include: 2011 & 2012 Grand Champion Motley Que Crew from Grosse Pointe Woods, along with Ribs Within from New Jersey, Johnny Fives Smokin' BBQ from Ohio, Steel Smokin' BBQ from Indiana, and the Q'n Chanucks from Ontario, Canada

 On Saturday, barbecue entries are presented before a panel of judges for evaluation.  Winners will be announced on stage at 3:00 pm.

 The winning team will be considered for participation in the two largest invitational BBQ contests in the world: the American Royal World Series of BBQ in Kansas City in September and the Jack Daniel's World Championship BBQ Invitational in Lynchburg, Tennessee in October.

  "The Auburn Hills BBQ Cook-Off attracts some of the best pit masters around," Keenan says. "The thrill of a world-class competition right in our own backyard is something barbecue enthusiast and Summerfest visitors will not want to miss!"  

 In addition to the BBQ Cook-off Summerfest will be host an array of attractions for all ages to enjoy.
