Camera captures vandals at popular Birmingham restaurant

Men take after-hours stroll through Birmingham's Cafe Via, causing thousands of dollars in destruction

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – Two men were walking through the outdoor patio of a popular Birmingham restaurant early Sunday morning.

Surveillance video from 2 a.m. at Cafe Via shows the men knocking over decorative objects and granite-topped tables. The vandalism took less than two minutes and caused about $5,000 in damage.

Cafe Via manager Carol White was in the restaurant after closing. She was doing inventory when she heard the commotion.

"We heard a boom and the three of us came outside," White said. "The first thing I saw was this table ... one of those small tables was broken completely in half."

White and her coworkers are left wondering why someone would vandalize their popular restaurant. It makes no sense to them. The two men didn't eat or drink at Cafe Via and none of the restaurant's staff recognizes them.

The cameras captured their faces. Birmingham police have the video and they want the public's help in their search for the vandals.
