Witnesses told police they saw two people in the water about 2 p.m. May 13 behind the Henry Ford Estate, which is off Fair Lane Drive just west of Evergreen Road. A 23-year-old Dearborn Heights woman was pulled from the water that day, but a week passed before the man was found.

The woman is OK. She was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She's also a UM-Dearborn student.

The man's body was found on the north side of the river, west of Evergreen Road, not far from the university campus.

Police still have to positively identify the body. The missing man was a Plymouth resident.

There were storms and heavy rain the day he went into the river which created a quicker tide. The area behind the Ford Estate has paths along the water which are open to the public. Police were searching the pathways and bridges.

The Downriver and Wayne County dive teams both were searching.

"The entire Dearborn Police Department expresses our condolences to the victims of this tragedy including the student's family and University of Michigan community," said Dearborn police Chief Ronald Haddad in a news release.
