AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – 
A diesel fuel spill at an Auburn Hills company found Monday morning has prompted a hazmat response effort.
About 4,000 gallons of diesel fuel from a backup generator were found spilled at RGIS on Taylor Road. The fuel entered a storm drain, according to the Auburn Hills Fire Department.

"A valve on the generator malfunctioned which led to the spill. The spill most likely started over the weekend and was not noticed until employees arrived at work this morning," according to a news release from the fire department.
The diesel fuel went into the RGIS private storm drain system which leads to a retention pond on the property. Water from the retention pond eventually discharges to the Galloway Drain system which is controlled by the Oakland County Resources Commission.
"There is no evidence the fuel leaked into the public sanitary system. The current frigid temps reduce the threat of a fire due to the required ignition temperature for diesel fuel," the fire department said in the release.
The Oakland County Hazardous Materials team has responded to the scene. Representatives from the Department of Environmental Quality and the Oakland County Resources Commission also are on scene. A private environmental clean up company has been contacted to clean up the spill.
No businesses in the area were evacuated and there were no injuries caused by the spill.
