Dozens displaced after fire at Inkster apartment building

No injuries reported; Firefighters investigating unattended grill as cause

INKSTER, Mich. – No one was hurt but dozens have been displaced after a fire early Thursday morning at an apartment building in Inkster.

The fire broke out around 2 a.m. in Dartmouth Square Apartments.

Assistant Fire Chief John Adams said an unattended barbecue on the third floor is being investigated as the cause.

"As our crews arrived to the scene, they noticed that it was on the exterior of the building, on that third-floor balcony," said Assistant Fire Chief John Adams. "It got into the common roof line."

The building had 12 units, 10 of which were occupied.

All of the 21 residents were able to get out, but with nothing more than their lives.

"Everything I've worked for is just gone. Everything. We did make it out ... everybody's fine," said Robert Smith.
