Fallen New Baltimore officer honored with procession

Officer Patrick Wisniewski killed in motorcycle crash Sunday

NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. – Police and fire crews drove in procession along with the family and friends of a fallen New Baltimore officer killed in a motorcycle accident.

Officer Patrick Wisniewski was killed when his motorcycle slammed into a car at the intersection of 21 Mile Road and Jefferson on Sunday.

Police say 64-year-old Gerald Lee Belcher of Chesterfield Township made a left turn in front of Wisniewski causing the accident.

Belcher was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license causing death and driving while intoxicated.

Wisniewski was a reserve officer with the police department and was also a Staff Sargent in the 127th Security Forces at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

The funeral procession started at Gendernalik Funeral Home in New Baltimore and moved slowly to Selfridge where cars past a line of saluting military.

Wisniewski, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was "just a few months away from being able to achieve the dream of becoming a full-time, full-fledged officer," said Chief Tim Wiley.
