Former Fraser teacher faces charges for child porn

Police say investigation finds child porn images on former Fraser teacher's cellphone

DETROIT – A former Macomb County middle school teacher has been arrested and charged with production, receipt and possession of child pornography.

The FBI and U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade announced the charges Monday against Gregory Austin, 32, of Chesterfield Township.

Austin was a teacher with the Fraser School District in 2005. He was a band instructor and became a classroom teacher in 2006.

On March 19, Austin was arrested by the Roseville Police Department for his involvement in a drug deal. As a result of the arrests and an investigation, police found images of suspected child pornography on his cellphone. Police also say they found images of minors, sexual text messages that appeared to involve minors and two pornographic videos, one of which depicted a minor.

The images included male and female minors, police said.

The FBI's Southeast Michigan Crimes Against Children Taskforce took over the investigation. The Fraser School District and Fraser Police Department assisted the FBI in reviewing the images on Austin's phone. Twelve images were identified as known minors and students enrolled with Fraser schools.

Austin left the school district after his March arrest.

Anyone with information on Austin and his contacts with minors is asked to contact the FBI at 313-965-2323.

Two U.S. attorneys are prosecuting the case.
