BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A man is behind bars after a Birmingham Bank was robbed at gunpoint Monday morning.
According to Birmingham Police, the suspect entered the Comerica Bank on West Maple Road just after 9 a.m. He pointed a handgun at the teller and demanded money. Bank employees complied with his request, and the suspect took off on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

An officer saw the suspect run across Maple Road and into a backyard, but subsequently lost sight of him.
Officers from Beverly Hills, Southfield, Bloomfield Township, Troy, and Berkley assisted in setting up a perimeter. During the search, Seaholm High School, BASCC Senior Center, and two daycare centers were temporarily placed on lockdown.
Just before 11 a.m. the suspect was located hiding in the bushes behind the First Presbyterian Church across the street from the bank.
The suspect was in possession of the stolen money and a handgun. Police say the man was found to be a wanted fugitive out of Miami.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
