HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A family of three that left their Highland home last Sunday arrived at a hospital in Novi as a family of four.
Brady Mussen knows how to make an entrance.
His mother, Samantha, had gone to Providence Park Hospital in labor. But several hours later, she was sent home. A short time later, Samantha felt it was time, so she and her husband, Brian, and their 3-year-old daughter got in the car for a return trip to the hospital.
Samantha's water broke and she felt the baby was arriving. Brian pulled into the parking lot of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Commerce Township.
"The whole time I just couldn't believe it was actually happening. She kept saying it was and I kept saying, no, it's not," Mussen said.
Brian called 911, but minutes before paramedics arrived, baby Brady arrived.
"Once I saw the head, that's when it really got real to me," Mussen said.
Samantha said it all happened very fast.
" I see the lights in the parking lot and the next thing I know he's on m, the baby's like here, Samantha said.
Brady had a heartbeat but was not crying. Samantha said the paramedics assured them everything was fine.
"No they said everything's good, they were being so sweet. They were like, he'll be OK," Samantha said.
The Mussens were troubled that the hospital had sent Samantha home, only to have them return three hours later, but Samantha says she is overjoyed Brady is healthy and home.
"I'm just so happy he's here and I just hope he just knows how important he is to us," Mussen said.
The family also has a story they can share for years to come.
