HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Authorities say a man carrying a handgun was detained by military police at an entrance to Selfridge Air National Guard Base.
State police say they were called to assist military police on Monday night at the base in Macomb County's Harrison Township. Authorities say the man walked up to the gate and said he had a weapon. He was disarmed by military police and turned over to state police.

In a statement released Tuesday, state police said the man may have "mental health issues."
Troopers are investigating.
