BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police are investigating the death of a man who was found beaten to death in a Bloomfield Township home Thursday evening at Knollwood Pointe Condos .
According to police, the victim was in his 70s and lived alone. Family members have identified the man as Bill Whitelaw. The Oakland County Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Bloomfield Township police are investigating this as a homicide. Police said it appears to be a home invasion type situation in which the victim answered a knock at his door.
Whitelaw was found by his son about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
There were no signs of forced entry but the gas had been turned on and candles were lit.
