Man with loaded rifle caught at Dearborn Police Department

A citizen saw the suspicious man and alerted police

DEARBORN, Mich. – A man is receiving psychiatric evaluation after sneaking under the gate of the Dearborn Police Department with a loaded rifle.

Dearborn Police say they received a 911 call from a citizen around 7p.m. Saturday night. The caller observed a suspicious white male carrying an unknown object and looking through the gate at the secured Dearborn Police parking lot.

Police say the man then crawled under the locked gate and under a police vehicle where officers found and arrested him. The suspect had a loaded Winchester 30-30 caliber rifle concealed in a green shirt.

"Thanks to an alert citizen getting involved a tragedy was averted," said Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad.

The 50-year-old man was transported to Oakwood Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
