Michigan wolf hunting licenses go on sale in August

1st wolf hunting season in Michigan since 1974 begins in August

MICHIGAN – Michigan wolf hunting licenses go on sale next month for the first time since 1974 when they were placed on the endangered species list.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced that 1,200 licenses will be available Aug. 3 to Oct. 31, or until the quota is met. The licenses are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and cost $100 for Michigan residents and $500 for non-residents.

Wolf hunting was approved in Michigan after the Department of Natural Resources recommended letting hunters kill up to 43 wolves in three areas of the Upper Peninsula.

The licenses are available for purchase online at any authorized license agent, several DNR offices, or online at www.michigan.gov/huntdrawings.
