Money crisis may close Hillsdale Humane Society

Hillsdale Humane Society needs help to keep shelter open

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Greater Hillsdale Humane Society may have to close within a month due to an administrative oversight which allowed its tax exempt status to lapse.

Currently 45 dogs and 138 cats are being cared for by the Society which requires nearly $10,000 per month to stay in operation. The shelter manager explained that the newly installed board of directors found a lien placed on the shelter by the IRS for unpaid taxes.

During this crisis adoption fees will be cut in half. The shelter is also looking for volunteers needed to assist with animals that can't be fostered or adopted.

Anyone interested in making cash donations, volunteering, pet adoptions or fostering can contact the Hillsdale Humane Society at 517-523-2308.
