People urged to stay off all roads in Monroe County

Sheriff's dept. wants roads clear until at least noon

MONROE, Mich. – The Monroe County Sheriff's department is asking people to stay off the road until noon Wednesday.

The request was made because of the road conditions across the county.

Officials released a statement saying "Due to the continued weather alert and road conditions, the motoring public is asked to stay off Monroe County roads."

This includes all primary, secondary and side roads.

People are asked not to travel on roads except for essential travel to and from work or emergencies.

Crews are working to remove the snow and many stranded and abandoned vehicles that are blocking roads.

According to officials, law enforcement resources are stretched to the maximum limit attending to emergency calls for stranded

The problem is being worsened by the wind, which is sending snow back on the roadways and creating slick conditions.
