BRANDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Authorities say they are investigating the separate deaths of two elderly Oakland County residents who suffered from dementia and were found outside.
Friday just after 10 a.m., Brandon Township police and fire crews were called to an address on the 3900 block of Oakwood.
They arrived and found a deceased 83-year-old woman dressed in pajamas on the porch of her neighbor's house.
A walking cane and a purse were found next to her body. No sign of foul play was found and police say it appears that the woman died from exposure.
The temperature outside was 23 degrees.
The woman lived next door with her son, officials believe she wandered away from her house.
Police say the son walked over to the home while they were investigating the woman's death.
He told police his mother was diagnosed with dementia, but never wandered away before.
The son says his mother normally got out of bed around 10 a.m.
He told police he went to check on his mother and found her missing from the bedroom, then noticed the police activity next door.
In a separate incident a 75-year-old man was also found dead outside in Farmington Hills on Friday.
The man was discovered about 150 yards away from his home.
Police continue to investigate his death.
Friday autopsies are being performed on both of the deceased to confirm hypothermia as the cause of death.
