BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - Common Ground's 38th Annual Birmingham Street Art Fair will take over the streets of downtown Birmingham this Saturday and Sunday.
For 38 years, the art fair has served as a fundraiser for the work of Common Ground, Oakland County's non-profit agency providing emergency help for families in crisis.
The event has been called "one of the top 100 fine art fairs in the country" by Sunshine Artist magazine.
Admission is free and parking is available. The fair hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The artist booths will extend down Old Woodward south of Maple Road, complementing the city's vibrant street scene.
The art fair will host more than 150 artists from across the country showcasing their handmade artwork in ceramics, painting, photography, glass, jewelry, sculpture, wood, leather, metals, mixed media, paper, basketry, digital art, drawing, print making and more. It is produced in association with the Guild of Artists and Artisans.
Special guest The Detroit Institute of Arts will lead hands-on children's art activities at this year's fair. Young fairgoers will have the chance to create their own butterfly marionette and learn about the history of puppets.
The Birmingham Street Art Fair will present the annual "Art Auction" benefiting Common Ground. Visitors will have the opportunity to bid on artwork, the proceeds of which will help Common Ground continue its work.
