DETROIT - A Pontiac man is charged with mailing threatening communications to Congresswoman Candice Miller.
Robby Harris, 38, is accused of threatening to rape and sodomize Miller unless she paid him $1 million. Federal prosecutors say Harris mailed the letter on Oct. 10 to Miller's office in Shelby Township.
He did not threaten Miller alone. The letter also threatened her family including children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
"Send the money 1 million in 5 days or less or die everybody!" Harris' letter read, according to the complaint filed in court on Thursday.
The government is seeking detention. Harris is scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. Friday for a competency hearing. The charge is a 10-year felony.
Harris told FBI agents that he did not send the letter. However, agents found paper, an envelope and stamps matching the ones sent to Miller in Harris' apartment, according to the complaint.
Miller, R-Harrison Township, is the U.S. representative for Michigan's 10th congressional district. She has served since 2003.
