RIVER ROUGE, Mich. – The superintendent for River Rouge Schools was without a job as of Saturday night, but he is still getting paid.
Superintendent Dr. Carlos Lopez was voted out by a five-to-two margin at a special public board meeting.

The resolution was to put Lopez on paid leave until his contract expires in June; he currently makes $125,000 a year.
However, according to Lopez, he has no idea why he was terminated and said it is not based on his performance. Lopez has been credited for bringing in new Hispanic students to the district from Southwest Detroit.
"I just feel like he got the shaft. It was really unfair," said Vicki Dobbins of the River Rouge School Board.
The interim superintendent James Doig will be paid $36,000 to work until June. Doig formerly worked as mayor of the city and was also superintendent several years ago. Some people are not happy about the vote and are already talking about a recall for those who voted Lopez out and Doig back in.
James Doig and the board members who voted against Lopez could not be reached for comment.
