YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies have taken a man into custody in connection with a series of assaults on girls on their way to school in Ypsilanti Township.
The incidents took place Wednesday morning. Two eleven year-old girls said they were approached by a man on a bicycle near the intersection of Chevrolet and Studebaker Streets in Ypsilanti Township. The man allegedly grabbed one of the girls but let go and pedaled off when the girls began screaming.
In another incident nearby, a 17-year-old girl said she was grabbed from behind by a man who put his hand over her face. She bit his fingers and he let go and pedaled away.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff's department released a photo of a person of interest Thursday afternoon. It showed a young man on a bicycle. Within hours, area residents provided investigators with information for them to take a man into custody.
No charges have been filed. The man's name has not been released as the investigation continues.
