TROY, Mich. -
Daniels is expected to share a good news message about Troy. However, John Kulesz, cofounder of a group trying to kick Daniels out of office, questions the mayor's timing.
Her last state of the city address was in July 2011. This one comes less than two months before a recall vote.
"That's concerning because we are not sure if she is going to use the speech to argue against the recall," Kulesz said.
The group submitted more than 8,800 valid signatures to put the recall on the ballot. Daniels is accused of creating a hostile workplace, demeaning the city charter and opposing a transit station.
That's not all.
"For telling high school kids during a meeting that the homosexual lifestyle is dangerous. It's not her position as mayor to make that sort of claim," Kulesz said.
The petitions do not mention Daniels' first public controversy -- a gay slur posted to Facebook. It happened before she took office.
-- Mayor Janice Daniels delivered the speech at 7 p.m. Thursday night.
