TROY, Mich. – The principal of Troy's Hamilton Elementary School was closing in on the finish line at the Boston Marathon when the explosions happened on Monday.

Dr. Pamela Mathers said she was about 1/2 mile from completing the race and did not know what was going on. However, she quickly learned how horrible the scene was.

"It's really hard to describe 20 million emotions going on in my mind, you know," Mathers said. " First, thanking my lucky stars that my friends and I are OK. I'm kind of glad that the hills slowed me down."

Because Mathers did not finish the marathon, her children will have a special finish line for her to cross when she gets home to Michgian.
