Undercover FBI agent testifies in Hutaree militia trial

Agent posed as truck driver to record conversations

DETROIT - An FBI agent who posed as a member of southern Michigan's Hutaree militia testified in Detroit Friday about his conversations with militia leader David Stone.

Agent Steve Haug, who posed as a truck driver to join the Hutaree in 2009, says he was "shocked" to hear Stone talk about using certain copper wire in explosives, and also that he was concerned over Haug's knowledge of explosive powder.

Agent Haug made secret recordings of his conversations with Stone, which were played in court Friday.

Seven Hutaree members are charged with conspiring to rebel against the government. They're accused of plotting to kill a police officer as part of that rebellion.

Defense lawyers call those claims an exaggeration.
