YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office has released the sketch of a man they said was involved in the sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman in Ypsilanti Township.
The office said the woman's car broke down early Monday morning on Cary Drive and she walked down to Textile Road to wait for her father.
She was then approached by two men and assaulted.
- Dark complexion black man in his 20s, taller than 6 feet with a thin build (sketch)
- Light complexion man, 5 feet 6 inches tall, medium build with a mole or birth mark on left cheek.
Investigators are also trying to find a man (not a suspect) who was walking his dog in the area prior to this incident and had contact with the victim.
Neighbors who live in the area are on edge, hoping the man wanted in the sketch is found soon.
"I don't like to walk alone anyways, but especially since hearing such bad things. Definitely using the buddy system," said Amanda King, a neighbor who lives in the area.
Alerts have now been sent out in nearby neighborhoods.
"We're going to be more vigilant, no question about that. We are on our toes 101 percent of the time now. There's nothing you can take for granted anymore," said Roy Retzalff, a local business owner.
Woman are now taking extra precaution to stay safe.
"I was walking every morning at 5am with my dog. Now I'm walking with a buddy," said neighbor Tabitha Ragsdale.
Anyone with information, or anyone that was in this area between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., is asked to contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office confidential tip line at 734-973-7711, or Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAKUP 800-773-2587.
