Wayne County Commission to vote on Ficano censure

Resolution asks for censure of Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano

DETROIT – Wayne County Commissioners are scheduled to vote Thursday on whether Executive Robert Ficano should be censured.

Regardless of what the Commissioners vote on, whether it's asking Ficano to resign or just a slap on the wrist, the vote will do nothing but show displeasure. That's because such votes can't enforce anything.

Thursday's vote won't necessarily be on whether the county executive should resign. They are likely only to vote on whether the Commission should censure him.

Originally, Commission Vice Chair Pro-Tem Laura Cox was asking for Ficano to step down for what she calls "the good of the country."

Cox was backed by five other Commissioners at the last meeting.

Ficano has repeatedly said he won't resign. He said that's because he's done nothing wrong.
