GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Mich. -
According to police, a woman who recently moved to Lindsey's neighborhood near Calvin Street and Webster Road was robbed inside her own garage.
The woman was placing her 2-year-old child in her car about 6:30 a.m. when a suspect shoved her, grabbed her purse and ran away. The man ran right into Lindsey's backyard.
"Within moments I believe we had six police officers in our backyard with flashlights, and detectives," she said. "It was quite the scene quite early this morning."
Police found and caught the 32-year-old suspect as he made his way down Lindsey's driveway. He dropped the purse he had stolen just minutes before.
"It's very scary. My daughter leaves here pretty early in the morning and she also does a lot of walking, and it's frightening to hear that," said Pauline, who just moved to Grosse Pointe Farms.
The Grosse Pointe Farms neighborhood is happy the guy is off the streets but a bit shaken by the robbery no one expected to happen in their community.
"I just can't imagine what that fear would have been with her child and somebody coming out of nowhere and pushing you down. Just very scared. I feel very badly for her," said Pauline.
The man in custody is scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday. He is likely to face purse snatching and unarmed robbery charges. The man has a criminal history which includes home invasion charges that he pleaded guilty to.
