Miracle Mattress store closes indefinitely after Twin Tower ad

Video advertised 9/11 mattress sale

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio mattress company that aired a "Twin Tower sale" video is closing its store on the city's Northwest Side indefinitely.

"Effective immediately, our Miracle Mattress store will be closed indefinitely. We will be silent through the 9/11 Anniversary to avoid any further distractions from a day of recognition and remembrance for the victims and their families," owner Mike Bonanno said in a statement. "We take full responsibility for our actions and sincerely regret the hurt and pain caused by this disrespectful advertising campaign."

The video aired three days before the anniversary of the attacks that killed almost 3,000 people in New York City.

The 20-second video opened with three people standing in front of two stacks of mattresses. The ad said mattresses would be on sale for the price of a twin mattress. Two men are then "thrown back" into two stacks of mattresses, causing them to fall over. At the end of the video, the woman is heard saying, "We will never forget."

Jenee Lewis shared the video of the ad on the KSAT 12 Facebook page.

Bonanno said he will release a statement next week to announce accountability actions taken by the company and to make amends for the company's mistake.

"We will also describe our plans to offer support for the 9/11 Memorial and victims funds. There is very little we can do to take away the hurt we have caused, but we can begin with silence through the anniversary and then do our best to follow up with actions that reflect the seriousness of our mistake," he said.

Bonanno also apologized Thursday, saying the video was "tasteless and affront to the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11."
