Shelby Township man charged in crash that killed 2 children

DETROIT – --8-year-old Alana Lee and 2-year-old Lavele were killed in the crash.

A man who is accused of being drunk when he caused a crash that killed two children in was in court Thursday for for a preliminary exam.

It was the first time family members of the 2-year-old and 8-year-old who were called faced the accused drunk driver.

"I just saw lights coming at me, I felt like a burning sensation through my body. The next thing I know I woke up and started screaming for my kids," said Arlita Lee.

--62-year-old David Lamberson cried in court. He is charged with second degree murder

In January the Lee family was driving on Hoover when, police say, 62-year-old David Lamberson crossed into the opposite lane, slamming into their car. Police say Lamberson was drunk and traveling at 60 miles-per-hour in a 30 mile per hour zone. 8-year-old Alana lee and her 2-year-old brother Lavele were killed.

Arlita Lee cried on the witness stand saying, "I couldn't get my kids out of my door. It wouldn't open and my kids were locked in. I couldn't get my kids out of the car and I didn't know if it was going to blow up."

Lamberson was bound over for trial. He faces a second degree murder charge. He is expected back in court later this month.
